Service Description
Who needs to attend this course? - Anyone who will be carrying out the servicing and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers - Anyone likely to answer technical questions regarding portable extinguishers What does this course cover? - Fire extinguishing theory - Selection & positioning of the right fire extinguisher - Classes of fire - Definitions of a portable extinguisher - Fire ratings & flammable materials - Provision & siting of extinguishers - Inspection periods - Certification - Extinguishing agents - Maintenance requirements - Carrying out a service: delegates will be expected to complete an inspection and service a range of extinguishers Prior skills or knowledge required: There are no requirements required to attend this course. Why should I attend this course? - The ability to service and maintain portable fire extinguishers - Provide advice on suitability & the positioning of portable extinguishers - Course manuals to take away and refer back to - Delegates take two exams, a theory exam with 70 questions in a multiple choice format & a practical exam. Both exams require a 75% or above pass mark will be issued with a BAFE certificate. The results take 2-3 to be processed following the day of the exam. Delegates should attend a refresher course every three years to maintain current knowledge & certification. Tools required to participate: - Rubber Hammer / Mallet - Digital 10” Adjustable spanner (For co2 horn removal) - 1 x 2kg spring balance scale (Used to determine cartridge weight) - 1 x Digital scale (These must be suitable for weighing the extinguisher itself. Please ensure the hook at the bottom of the scale is small enough to fit inside the wall hanging bracket of an extinguisher. 25kg Electro Samson scales are commonly used for this purpose) - Torch - Pliers - Cleaning brush (2″ paintbrush will work for this) - Gauge bradawl tester (Paperclips will work here if an appropriate bradawl cannot be sourced) - Anti Tamper Seals - Gauge dots / Year patch stickers The following is not required but prove useful for servicing practise: - Screwdriver or pick for o-ring removal - Co2 O-rings - Mole grips - Air pump gauge tester (for larger coil sprung gauges found on Older Nu Swift / Moyne Roberts / Amerex products
